Michelin Airless Tyres $1,200 Each
This is Michelin’s airless UPTIS wheel — a puncture-proof tyre and rim fused into one. Its flexible spoke system replaces air, giving smoother impacts and a lifespan 2–3× longer than normal tyres.
It’s currently being tested by La Poste in France and DHL in Singapore, surviving curbs, stop-and-go routes, and even high-speed tests up to 210 km/h.
Michelin says development trials will continue through 2025, and prototypes have already clocked 4.5 million km.
because the rim and tyre are a single integrated unit—called a Tweel—they’re expected to cost up to twice the price of a premium Michelin tyre, roughly $600 to $1,200 per wheel.
But that higher price comes with major benefits: airless tyres virtually eliminate puncture failures and are designed to last 2–3 times longer than traditional pneumatic tyres.
