Emergency Response Team arrives at Azerbaijan Airlines jet crash
An Azerbaijani airplane crashed in Kazakhstan Wednesday, killing at least 38 of the 67 people on board — even as others miraculously escaped with their lives, officials said.
Flight J2-8243 departed from the Azerbaijan capital of Baku and was headed to Grozny, Russia in the North Caucus when it crashed hundreds of miles off course close to the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan.
It was reportedly transporting 62 passengers and five crew members, with AFP reporting the death toll at 38 as of Wednesday afternoon.
Survivors — including two children — have been rescued and were hospitalized, while four bodies were recovered and the search continued for the remaining passengers among the wreckage of the Embraer 190 passenger jet.
