The last two Eurovision song competitions, following the outbreak of war in Gaza, have seen venue protests against Israel, attempted stage invasions and tensions reportedly running high between acts behind the scenes in 2024.

This year’s entry for Israel, Yuval Raphael, herself survived the October 7th Hamas attack on the Nova Music Festival.
Today, the EBU and participating national broadcasters met in Geneva to debate whether Israel should be allowed to continue participating, with Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain all threatening to boycott.
There is precedent for countries being booted out of Eurovision, with Russia being excluded after its illegal full scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
