Elizabeth Smart on Explaining her 2002 Abduction To Her Children
In a #TODAYShow exclusive, Elizabeth Smart shared that she began having conversations about her past with her children when they were old enough to start asking questions about it. Smart, who does advocacy work for survivors of sexual violence and child safety, started talking about what she does and why with her eldest daughter when she was three years old. "She started asking me questions, like, where was I going? What was I doing? Why was I doing it?"
Smart continued, "I would say that opened the door to start having those conversations. And then just as they have grown, I have been able to let that conversation grow as well."
