The world's top international court has issued arrest warrants for Mr Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as senior Hamas commander Mohammed Deif, for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza war.
Israel rejected what it called the "absurd and false accusations", while America also refused to back the court's decision.
It suddenly plunges Mr Netanyahu into international isolation, and already the Dutch Foreign Minister has cancelled a trip to Israel next week.
