Mayday Air Disaster | S2E04 | Deadly Crossroads
A lone air traffic controller working at the Zurich Control Center failed to notice that a Russian plane was on a collision course with a DHL cargo plane. He instructed the Russian pilots to descend. Their anti-collision equipment advised them to climb. The Russian pilots choose to heed the air traffic controller’s instruction to descend. Unfortunately, the DHL pilots had also had an anti-collision warning to descend. The planes crashed into each other, killing all 71 people.
