Iran Threatens Retaliation if Trump's 'Doomsday' Threat Becomes Reality
Tehran is ready to retaliate should President Trump follow through on his threat to launch strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure Tuesday night, Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations Amir-Saeid Iravani said.
"Iran will not stand idle in the face of such egregious war crimes," he said. "It will exercise without hesitation its inherent right of self-defense, and will take immediate and proportionate reciprocal measures.” Iravani also rejected Trump's statement that the US could end the "whole of civilization" in Iran should Tehran miss his 8 p.m. deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
"Such rhetoric is unfitting of any political leader, let alone the head of a permanent member of the council entrusted with the maintenance of international peace and security," he told the UN Security Council.
