
Reeves defends Budget as Labour u-turns on workers rights
This morning it looked as though Rachel Reeves's very political budget had landed well with Labour backbenchers. There was plenty to please them, with higher taxes paying for more generous benefit payments.
Then came tonight's u-turn over workers' rights. Ministers said watering down the Employment Rights Bill was the only way to get it through Parliament but it is bound to anger left-wing MPs.
