Passengers on board an Air Canada flight had a terrifying landing experience recently, when a gear failure prompted the plane to slide on the runway at Halifax Stanfield Airport, and one of the wings to catch fire.
Footage recorded by Aden O’Callaghan from inside the plane on December 28 shows flames spurting from the wing.
O’Callaghan told Storyful that a “landing gear failure” led the plane to slide for over 15 seconds on the runway, prompting one of the wings to erupt “into a fireball”.
Additional footage from O’Callaghan shows the plane being hosed down to extinguish the fire.
Halifax Stanfield Airport said that all passengers and crew on board were able to deplane.
CBC said the flight was being operated by PAL Airlines for Air Canada. An Air Canada spokesman told them a “suspected landing gear issue” caused the problem.
O’Callaghan told CBC the experience left him sore, and “a bit shaken up”.
