She is the niece of former Bangladeshi prime minister Sheikh Hasina and was found guilty of influencing her aunt to secure a plot of land for her family. The MP denied any wrongdoing and called the verdict 'flawed' and 'farcical'.
The verdict comes two weeks after Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to death in a separate trial over her crackdown in 2024 against protests that ended her 15-year rule.
