The Abandoned Suburb of a Ghost Town, Boat Access Only.
Coming into Ocean Falls on the ferry, we happened to notice one cabin hidden in the trees at the entrance of Cousins Inlet. On our first day exploring the inlet, we found ourselves in this bay looking for a good place to drop the crab pot, and a closer look at the tree line revealed many more cabins.
This bay was once home to more than a dozen beautiful little vacation cabins and homes, and in the summer time it was a booming little spot. The downfall of this location, is that none of the land could be privately owned. It is of course not uncommon to build on leased land, but typically the lease can be transferred, renewed or passed down. Once the city of Ocean Falls began to decline, the lease was determined to expire. No more upgrades could be done to the cabins, and with the harsh wet climate, without annual maintenance the houses quickly fell into disrepair.
Today only two of these cabins are in a state that could be considered salvageable, and I hope that they will get the attention they deserve, though it is difficult to justify spending money on something that will ultimately never be yours.
