FIRST DRIVE: BYD Sealion 7 - Should you cancel the Tesla Model Y? | Electrifying
#bydsealion #byd #electriccars
The BYD Sealion is an all-electric SUV set to expand the brand’s offerings in the UK. Effectively a more practical, hatchback alternative to the Seal, the Sealion is a midsize crossover targeting families who want high levels of kit at a competitive price.
On the design front, the Sealion embraces a sleek, modern look with a focus on aerodynamics. It sports a streamlined front end with slim headlights and a closed-off grille, typical of many EVs. The sides feature sharp lines, while the rear end has a distinctive LED light bar that spans the width of the vehicle, giving it a futuristic touch.
Underneath, the Sealion comes with two battery pack options: 82 and 91kWh and uses BYD’s Blade Battery technology, known for its emphasis on safety and efficiency. Range figures go from 282 miles for the Design AWD model up to 311 miles for the Excellence AWD model, which is the only variant available with the larger pack.
Inside, the Sealion continues BYD’s trend of offering a tech-focused cabin. There’s a large central touchscreen with BYD’s user interface, plenty of connectivity options, and the use of sustainable materials. The spacious interior can comfortably accommodate five passengers, with a boot big enough for family outings or shopping trips.
Join Nicola as she takes to the road in the BYD Sealion for the first time. Will this be the car to tempt drivers out of a Tesla Model Y? Is it on your shortlist? Let us know in the comments below.
