Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith charged with war crimes | 7.30
At Sydney airport this morning AFP officers escorted the burly, tattooed figure of Ben Roberts-Smith from a plane, the decorated former SAS soldier now charged with war crime murder.
He was transferred to Silverwater remand centre this evening.
Before this extraordinary moment, Robert-Smith's reputation had been fought over for years. Nine newspapers pursued a dogged investigation of the former soldier while he enjoyed the backing of powerful media and political figures - Brendan Nelson, Kerry Stokes and Pauline Hanson, who says she remains steadfast in her support.
7.30’s Sarah Ferguson interviews reporter Nick McKenzie about the allegations, which Roberts-Smith denies.
