Why did the government release radioactive foxes?
In 1943 during World War II, the United States had an idea to destroy Japanese morale. Operation Fantasia would tap into Japanese fears of kitsune, supernatural fox creatures some believe foreshadow doom. So they captured live foxes, covered them in glowing radium-based paint, and released them into the park.
