Taylor Swift topped the charts with The Tortured Poets Department earlier this year. In the title track, Swift declares that "Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist." The shoutout inspired Puth to release a song he'd recently written.
"Taylor basically reaffirmed the notion that I could say things in my music in a journal-like way, like how she does in her music," he tells Genius. "She reaffirmed to me that I could do that too."
