Devuan 5.0: 1 Second Slower, But Why?
In this video, we dive into Devuan 5.0 Linux, a Debian-based distro that ditched systemd in favor of the classic sysvinit. We'll explore why Devuan takes a whole second longer to boot up than Debian, and whether that extra second was worth the effort that went into systemd.
It is not my hope that we resurrect this debate between systemd and sysvinit again, I think that ship sailed a long time ago, but if I am going to present Devuan to ignore the reason behind its existence would do the distribution an injustice.
We'll discuss:
The systemd vs. sysvinit debate: Is systemd's speed truly groundbreaking, or is it just a matter of milliseconds?
Devuan's philosophy: Why have they chosen to stick with the older init system
