Floods devastate Queensland with 48,000 cattle lost | 7.30
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji tore through the north of Queensland on Sunday, sinking boats and ripping others from their moorings.
The system dumped hundreds of millimetres of rain and sent a wave of water to the Mackay and Isaac region.
The low is now expected to drift further northwest, drenching communities and cattle stations that are already flooded after a huge downpour between Christmas and the New Year.
Some graziers have lost everything, telling 7.30 flood gauges were out of action at critical times.
Their warning to policymakers: when gauges fail, livestock, livelihoods and human lives are put at risk.
