A 34-year-old social media influencer has been arrested by Australian police accused of torturing a baby and taking photos of her in “immense distress and pain” to “entice monetary donations and online followers.”
Queensland Police said the woman was arrested at Logan, south of Brisbane, on Thursday, and is accused of defrauding donors of AU$60,000 via GoFundMe.
She was also charged with administering poison with intent to harm, making child exploitation material, and fraud.
Police allege that between August 6 and October 15, 2024, the woman gave medicine to a one-year-old girl, who was “known to her”, without medical approval.
They allege the woman disregarded medical advice and “went to lengths to obtain unauthorised medicines,” which included old medications prescribed to another person in her home.
It’s alleged the woman took photos and videos of the child in “immense pain and distress” to “entice monetary donations and online followers.”
On October 15, 2024, medical staff reported harm against the child to detectives. Police took immediate action to protect the child while an investigation commenced. Police said a test for unauthorised medicines returned a positive result on January 7.
The woman was expected to appear before to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
Police told Storyful they would not be confirming “any specific relationship between the two parties other than to say the infant was known to the woman.”
