Government unveils 'once in a generation' aged care reform | 7.30
After months of negotiations, the Albanese Government has reached a deal with the Coalition to implement wide-ranging reforms to aged care.
The centrepiece is a new $4.3 billion Support at Home Program beginning in July next year.
But there are also changes affecting residential care, with wealthy Australians entering the system required to pay more for the care they receive, and also being required to surrender 2 per cent of their upfront deposit to the aged care provider, for every year they are there, for up to five years - meaning they could lose up to 10 per cent of their deposit.
Laura Tingle spoke to Aged Care Minister, Anika Wells.
