In this video from Berklee Online’s AI for Music and Audio course—authored by Dr. Carlos Arana—we hear from special guest Jonathan Wyner, who discusses how artificial intelligence is further increasing the accessibility and democratization of music production. Wyner says that one of AI’s greatest strengths could also be its greatest weakness, which is the fact that it drives out mistakes. He then cites examples of how mistakes in music production have actually led to advances in artistic expression. The human elements of music production are what give it life, he says, pointing to a Radiohead song. Wyner encourages aspiring music producers not to run away from AI, but also to not be afraid to push back. Call out what’s wrong, he says, be engaged. The development community needs input from creatives, and the creatives need to understand what the development community is doing in this ever-evolving field.
