Congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier addresses her old tweets
"I certainly wouldn't use a lot of the language that I used back then today."
Darializa Avila Chevalier, the Mamdani-backed DSA candidate challenging Rep. Adriano Espaillat in NY-13, has faced weeks of scrutiny over thousands of deleted tweets, from comments about police and Israel to a 2022 post mocking US service members for committing "war crimes."
She joins Vox's Astead Herndon to talk about what she's learned since 2019 and 2020, why she deleted her account, and how she thinks about language and rhetoric in politics now.
Listen to Astead's interview with Chevalier this Saturday, June 20th wherever you get your podcasts.
