How Graphic Design Principles Are Used By The Pros!
Graphic design principles are important, they are the basics, right? But how and when do the graphic design professionals use these fundamental principles? From taking a look at the Nike logo, to the craziness of the Old Spice adverts and marketing, we look at how graphic design principles should be used, and how they are used in the world of graphic design.
We also look at album artwork by Tyler The Creator, and one of the poster design masters, contributing to the Swiss Poster Design movement. This video not only shows you how the graphic design principles are used by the design pros, but it looks at why they are used in the way they are. This then allows you to move on and replicate the teachings for your next graphic design project.
Here are the 8 main design principles:
Balance: Balance refers to the distribution of visual weight in a design. It can be symmetrical, asymmetrical, or radial, and it helps create stability and harmony in a composition.
Contrast: Contrast involves the juxtaposition of different elements in a design to make them stand out.
Emphasis: Emphasis is the principle of making certain elements stand out more than others to draw the viewer's attention. It's about creating focal points and guiding the viewer's eye through the design.
Hierarchy: Hierarchy is the organization of elements in a design to convey the importance of each element. It helps viewers navigate the information presented and understand the relationship between different elements.
Proportion: Proportion refers to the size relationships between different elements in a design. It's important for creating a sense of harmony and visual appeal.
Repetition: Repetition involves using consistent visual elements throughout a design to create unity and cohesion. It helps reinforce the overall message and branding.
Alignment: Alignment refers to the arrangement of elements along a common axis or guideline. It creates a sense of order and structure in a design, making it easier to read and understand.
White space (or negative space): White space is the empty space between and around elements in a design. It's not necessarily white but refers to any area without content. White space helps reduce clutter, improve readability, and emphasize key elements.
