Thermal drone footage captured the interior of a hydropower project tunnel in Nepal’s Rasuwa district on Monday (August 31), as rescue operations continued in the aftermath of last week's Himalayan flood.
The black and white thermal footage showed the curved roof and interior walls of the tunnel at Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project stretching into the darkness, as rescuers pressed on to reach at least three workers believed to be trapped underground following the floods.
"We were kind of disappointed because we had some expectation that there could be some people inside the power room but seeing the level of flood, mud, water, soil, everything there rising up like 80, 90% high. Our hopes are gone, we're definitely sad, and we just decided to go back," said thermal drone operator and Nepali climber Manish Maharjan.
