Never answer questions quickly. Pause first.
Never answer a question quickly. Pause first.
Here's why most people lose credibility the moment they open their mouth: they rush their answer. The second someone asks you a question, you feel this pressure to fill the silence immediately. So you start talking before you've even figured out what you want to say.
And what happens? You ramble. You speak in circles. You use filler words. You sound unprepared even when you know your stuff.
The fix is simple: pause. When someone asks you a question, take two seconds. Breathe. Let the question land. Then answer with clarity.
That pause does three things. One, it gives you time to structure your thought. Two, it signals confidence because only secure people are comfortable with silence. Three, it makes the other person feel heard because you're actually considering their question instead of just reacting to it.
Most people think pausing makes them look slow. It's the opposite. Pausing makes you look thoughtful, intentional, and in control.
Try it in your next conversation. You'll feel the difference immediately.
