After a miraculous recovery from cancer years ago, Sam Neill's family confirms the iconic New Zealand actor is dead at the age of 78. 'Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterized his whole life,' they shared in a statement announcing the news. 'The loss was sudden and unexpected, but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free.' Launching onto the acting scene in the '70s, Sam broke through in 1981 with 'Possession,' before the '90s skyrocketed him to movie stardom with awards-loved performances in films like 'The Piano,' and franchise fare like 'Jurassic Park.'
