Venice is one of the great wonders of the world where for around 1600 years people have lived above the water in a brilliant feat of engineering. But water, the very thing that makes Venice special, is also its greatest threat. The sea is rising faster than ever before, and those trying to keep the city above the water say nothing currently on the table can keep the city and its treasures safe.
On Foreign Correspondent guest reporter Anthony Burke takes time out from his regular gig on Grand Designs Australia to visit an iconic city under siege from climate change. With access to some of Venice’s most famous buildings and the engineering system trying to hold back the tide, he asks the question: Can Venice be saved?
