MFA Member Lectures: Fashioned by Sargent
Erica Hirshler, Croll Senior Curator of American Painting, explores “Fashioned by Sargent,” an exhibition that reveals the liberties the painter took with his sitters’ clothing to express personalities, power, professions, gender identities, and nationalities—and to fulfill his own artistic agenda. Hirshler considers Sargent’s complex relationship with his often-affluent sitters and their clothes, and discusses the creation of the exhibition.
