It’s time for some of the toughest off-roaders to go head-to-head!
We’ve got our hands on the Land Rover Defender OCTA, a tuned Ineos Grenadier, and a tuned Ford Ranger Raptor, and they’re going to go head-to-head over a series of off-road challenges to see which is the best when you head off the tarmac.
But how do they compare on paper? Let’s deep dive into the stats…
The Land Rover Defender OCTA is powered by a BMW 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces 635hp and 750Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed auto gearbox, and the car weighs in at 2,510kg. It has several features to help it traverse this off-road course, including a central & rear locking diffs as well as uprated suspension. However, it’s not cheap - it costs an eye-watering £158,000!
Up next, we have the tuned Grenadier. It rolls up with a tuned 3-litre straight-six that puts down 450hp and 680Nm. It’s slightly lighter than the OCTA, at 2,480kg. It’s also equipped with a central locking diff, uprated suspension, and it’s a whole lot cheaper than the Land Rover, costing around £100,000.
Then, finally, we have the tuned Ford Ranger Raptor. It’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo V6, and this sends 420hp and 610Nm to all four wheels via a 10-speed auto gearbox. It’s packing a front and rear diff, lifted suspension, and aftermarket wheels and tyres - the only car here not on factory tyres! It tips the scales at 2,454kg, and it’s by far the cheapest car here, costing around £60,000.
So the Ineos and Ford combined cost the same as the OCTA. But will either of them be able to take down this top-of-the-range Defender? There’s only one way to find out!
