Children under 16 are to be banned from social media from next year, according to the prime minister.

Following the lead of Australia, which implemented restrictions last December, the government will restrict access to platforms like Snapchat, TikTok, X, Facebook and YouTube.
The announcement was welcomed by the Conservatives and campaign groups, but condemned by tech firms. Speaking in Downing Street, Keir Starmer said the ban will come into force from Spring 2027.
