ICE may soon equip officers with gloves capable of delivering painful electric shocks to help gain compliance from combative individuals. The Department of Homeland Security said ICE plans to spend up to $20 million on thousands of the devices, known as G.L.O.V.E. (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter), by March. Manufactured by a Kentucky company, the gloves are already used by some jails and police departments, including in Nelson County, where the jailer says they can help officers gain control of inmates when de-escalation efforts fail.
