Cuban dissident artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara arrived in the United States after serving a five-year prison sentence in Cuba. The co-founder of the opposition San Isidro Movement was welcomed by supporters in Miami, where he thanked the U.S. and European Union and called for change in Cuba, saying the country’s future must be rebuilt by its people. Otero Alcántara was arrested in 2021 during widespread anti-government protests and later convicted on charges including desecration of national symbols, contempt, and public disorder. He was granted humanitarian parole, according to U.S. officials.
