A 34-year-old Mexican national who is in the United States illegally has been arrested as part of Operation Checkmate, a multi-day undercover operation targeting individuals who use the internet to solicit minors for sex. Investigators say Jose Malagon communicated online with undercover detectives posing as teenage girls and allegedly solicited them for sex. Although he initially agreed to meet one of the "teens," he did not travel. Detectives later obtained an arrest warrant, and Malagon was taken into custody on June 25 in Neptune Beach after reportedly resisting arrest.
