Lester Young mash up with ELO
The other day I was in the car listening to mr blue sky by electric Light orchestra (a favourite of my young son who had chosen it) and part of the soundtrack to my earlier life.
I was thinking amongst other things how ELO made a seemingly trite beat groove so contagiously.
I suddenly had the urge to experiment playing some jazz lines on this one chord vamp.
A few days later at home I sampled one bar of the groove , repeated it and started experimenting....

I have been immersing myself in Lester Youngs majestic solo on “Lady be Good” for the last couple of weeks so I thought about playing some Lester like lines over the one chord.
This was fun as I am fascinated by the idea of what you can play over one chord especially as an educator, how to teach the non diatonic notes.
Anyway here is the result.
The lines that I play come from module 3 of the new Jazzduets course "10 best solos for beginners to learn"

My name is Nick Homes. I am a non genius musician who struggled for many years to find out the secrets of jazz improvisation. Throughout 40 years of playing, and obsessive investigation I have focussed on building systems of learning for my students so they can improve, and reach their learning goals with the highest probability whilst having fun!
