'It’s Over, But It’s Never Over': Melissa Hortman's Parents Speak After Killer’s Sentence
The man convicted of killing former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, was sentenced to two life terms plus 40 years after pleading guilty to federal charges. During the sentencing hearing, family members, lawmakers, and survivors described the lasting impact of the attack, while Hortman’s parents said they were relieved the case had concluded but that their loss would never fully go away. The shooter also wounded state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife during the June 2025 attacks.
