What's one skill that fits you into almost any dev team? APIs. Modern software engineering is really just connecting systems together, and they talk through APIs. On the consuming side, get comfortable making requests in Python: handling JSON, authentication, failures, rate limits, error codes, and how HTTP actually works.
On the building side, you should be able to stand up a simple API yourself with something like FastAPI, Django, or Flask, wrapping logic in a few endpoints, returning clean JSON, and keeping everything properly typed and structured.
Comfortable on both sides, calling and building, and you've got an essential skill for today's software world.
