Tiny rooms at sky-high prices | DW Documentary
Berlin was once known for its cheap rents. Now, overpriced tiny rooms have become the norm. Many apartments are listed as furnished short-term rentals, which can cost twice as much as standard apartments. This business model is more profitable for landlords because of a gap in German rental laws.
The "Mietpreisbremse," which regulates rent prices, doesn't apply to apartments that are legitimately rented for "temporary use." So, landlords advertise them as such, even when they don't actually meet that definition. They also charge extra fees for furniture, without having to explain or itemize those costs.
