Witness how Christ's first miracle unfolds almost in slow motion, with every glance, gesture and movement drawing us closer to the exact moment water becomes wine. Join Curator Imogen Tedbury and Conservator Paul Ackroyd as they reveal how Mattia Preti transforms ‘The Marriage at Cana’ into a moment suspended in time.
Follow the story behind the National Gallery's only work by Preti – a painting shaped by both Preti's artistic influences, including Paolo Veronese, and by his rivalry with fellow painter Luca Giordano. The painting suffered water damage before coming into the National Gallery's collection, necessitating its restoration treatment by Paul.
