
'Ultra-Processed' Foods in the Crosshairs as U.S. Revamps Food Rules
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is overhauling the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) framework to increase transparency around food ingredients. The department is also advancing the federal government’s first proposed definition of “ultra-processed foods,” as part of broader efforts to reshape how food ingredients and processing are regulated.
