Canada and the Philippines have elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership, expanding cooperation on defense, trade, and regional security. Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the agreement will strengthen ties in the Indo-Pacific, advance negotiations on a free trade deal, and reinforce support for a rules-based international order, including the 2016 South China Sea arbitration ruling.
