A massive pileup involving at least 50 cars shut down all southbound lanes of a South Carolina interstate in Santee on October 1. The crash, which occurred over Lake Marion, was triggered by dense fog that severely compromised visibility. Transportation officials warned that clearing the bridge would take an extended period, while footage captured by motorist Olivia Branch highlighted the widespread wreckage and gridlock.
