Claude Code's default user interfaces look generic, and the frontend-design skill is what fixes that. It builds a design system, plus skills and commands, into Claude so it produces significantly better UIs, especially for web. Instead of the safe default look, it comes up with a color palette, typography, and an actual design system on its own, which won't happen unless you're running the plugin.
In the demo I asked for the front end and landing page of a music streaming app in plain HTML and CSS, and off a single prompt it produced a genuinely decent-looking site.
