What skills do you need to become a forward-deployed engineer? It starts with one non-negotiable foundation: real software engineering. That means strong Python, working with APIs (both consuming and building them), databases and SQL, notebooks, testing, debugging, and writing solid code.
On top of that, system design and the ability to understand large-scale codebases, plus turning requirements into components, data flows, and trade-offs you can actually defend to clients and stakeholders.
No shortcuts here, this is the base everything else builds on.
