Trump and Xi strike warm tone - but Taiwan tensions remain

The red carpet has been rolled out for Donald Trump for a two-day summit with Xi Jinping.

On one level, there were pleasantries abundant: Xi said America and China "should be partners rather than rivals" and President Trump described their talks as "extremely positive".
But there were warnings too, with the Chinese leader saying that Taiwan, if handled poorly, could lead to conflict with the US.
