They Built a Resilient Off-Grid Tiny Home For Uncertain Times
In uncertain times, there’s something incredibly powerful about creating a home that gives you more control over the essentials of life: power, water, food, shelter and finances. That’s exactly what Lizzie and David have done with their beautiful off-grid tiny house in Victoria, Australia.
After years of living in a small apartment in Hong Kong, the couple returned to Australia with a dream of building their own tiny home. With no previous building experience, they designed and constructed this stunning DIY tiny house themselves, creating a warm, functional and deeply personal home that gives them greater control over their power, water, food and finances.
Their tiny house is fully off-grid, with solar power, rainwater collection, gas hot water, a composting toilet and a clever greywater system inspired by another Living Big in a Tiny House episode. Set on a peaceful farm in Victoria, their home is surrounded by a quarter acre of land that they are now beginning to transform into a productive food forest.
Inside, this tiny home is beautifully designed with a spacious kitchen, copper sink, wood stove, cozy sleeping loft, office space, bathtub, clever storage and a stunning green, copper, gold and timber colour palette. Every inch of the home has been carefully thought through to support comfortable tiny house living.
This episode is a wonderful example of how tiny homes, off-grid living, homesteading, prepping, permaculture and resilient design can all come together to create a more secure and meaningful way of life.
