Guinea-Bissau’s Bissagos: Where Fish Walk and Hippos Take to Saltwater | SLICE EARTH | FULL DOC
In Guinea-Bissau’s Bissagos Islands, wildlife survives by crossing boundaries few species can endure. Mudskippers move across exposed mud, hippos shift toward saltwater as seasonal lagoons dry, frogs seal themselves against months of heat, and predators rely on camouflage, venom, traps, and highly specialized hunting strategies.
Across mangroves, savannah, forest, beaches, and tidal zones, biologist Raúl León searches for the animals that reveal how this archipelago works. The journey also follows nesting green turtles, newly recorded reptiles, giant invertebrates, and the complex habitats that support life between land and sea.
