A little more than 100 years ago, aluminum foil was more valuable than gold.
Aluminum used to be difficult to extract, so people used it for jewelry, silverware, and it's even capped on the Washington Monument. However, thanks to technological progress it's now so readily available we use it to wrap leftovers.
