100 Year Old Shack Turned into Something Special
American artist Phillip K Smith, has taken an abandoned desert shack in Joshua Tree, in the deserts of California, and transformed it into a stunning optical illusion piece of art called “Lucid Stead.”
The artist took the cabin that has been slowly rotting in the harsh desert environments for seventy years, added mirrors between aged wood slats and created an illusion, that makes you think you can see right through the building.
Composed of mirrors, LED lighting, custom built electronic equipment and Arduino programming, amalgamated with a pre-existing structure.
Featured in hundreds of online and print publications, Phillip is known for creating large scaled temporary installations such as Lucid Stead in Joshua Tree
Phillip said in an interview “this project is about tapping into the desert, into the pace of change, and is about responding to the quiet of the place.”
Thanks for watching
