The New York Skyscraper Built to Withstand a Nuclear Attack - Unofficially known as the AT&T Long Lines Building, located at 33 Thomas Street, NYC.
From 1974 to 1999, it served as a gargantuan telephone switchboard for AT&T’s long distance service. In its prime, it used to direct around 175 million calls per day.
The building looks like a fortress, because it was built like one. It was constructed in 1974, during the cold war period and was designed to withstand a nuclear blast, and protect the occupants from nuclear fallout.
