Banksy 'Girl With Balloon' Sells for £16 Million
In 2018, a painting by the street artist Banksy, titled Girl with Balloon, was sold at Sotheby's London for £1.1 million pounds or $1.5 million US dollars, but just after the gavel came down, someone in the audience used a remote to activate a hidden mechanism in the frame of the painting, which was designed to pull the painting down through a shredder.
But as it was being shredded, the mechanism failed and the painting stopped half way, and has remained that way ever since.
Well just 3 years later in October 2021, the painting went up for auction again at Sotherby’s London, and sold for a staggering amount no one predicted.
The renamed painting is now called ‘Love is in the Bin’ which had nine bidders battling it out for 10 minutes, with a final winning bid of £16 million pounds or $22 million US dollars.
Thanks for watching.
