Myanmar’s former leader Aung San Suu Kyi has had her sentence reduced by a sixth according to her lawyer.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner is serving a 27-year sentence for offences ranging from corruption to election fraud - which her allies say are politically motivated.
Her reputation was tarnished after she defended Myanmar's military in 2019, who were accused of genocide against Rohingya Muslims.
Her sentence reduction is part of an amnesty releasing over 4,000 prisoners, according to state media.
Former president Win Myint who was jailed after the 2021 coup was among those released.
He’s been granted a pardon and the reduction of his remaining sentences under specified conditions” according to state media.
Amnesties usually happen in April in Myanmar as the country celebrates their New Year.
